TINY COTTAGE GUIDE

Welcome to the Tiny Cottage, we’ve tried to make it like a tiny home from home and here is some info before your stay. The wifi code, entrance code and more detailed instructions will be sent to you the day before you arrive.

Parking

There’s space for two cars, but we need one, so please leave space for a second car on the driveway.

Sofa Bed & Bedding

To open the sofa bed, watch instructional video below:

TV

The TV is connected to the internet for all the main on demand channels (Netflix, Amazon, Now TV, Disney+, BBC, ITV, C4, C5, Freeview Play, UKTV Play, Youtube, Spotify Music) and subscriptions are included.

However there is no aerial connection so you can only watch via these apps on the TV. (some apps like C4 & BBC iPlayer allow you to watch scheduled tv also).

Food Shopping

St Pancras Stores, a three-minute walk away, is open till 7pm Monday to Saturday and till 1.30pm on Sundays. Go back up the spur road and turn right by the seating area. Go down the steps and continue to the bottom of the hill were you’ll find the shop on the right.

It sells most provisions including newspapers, milk, juice, alcohol, vegetables, fruit, freshly–baked artisan bread, pastries, croissants and homemade curries.

Frank Richards and Sons Butchers are up on the main road opposite St Anne’s Church. They also sell fresh veg and eggs. Head out to Rotten Row walking towards town. 100 yards from here on the left hand side is a footpath twitten with some steps. Head up there and at the main raod turn left and butchers is another 100 yards on the right hand side.

There are farmers markets every Friday morning and the first Saturday of the month. There is also a Tescos, Waitrose and Aldi in town.

Lewes Town

Lewes is a uniquely characterful town with quirky independent shops and an incredible array of pubs (the nearest and one of the best is the Swan on Southover High Street), Georgian buildings, cobbled streets and a medieval castle. The local cinema / cafe / restaurant called the Depot is just as good for hanging out as it is for seeing a film.

You can easily lose hours in the vintage / antiques shops and local food markets (Fridays and first Saturday of the month). It's a vibrant place for all ages - famous for summer music festivals, Charleston's Speakers Festival and bonfire parades.

At the bottom of our road, is a park perfect for kicking a ball and a playground. Other amenities include a local skatepark, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, tennis courts, churches, historic buildings, music recitals and gig venues (The Con Club two mins away is worth checking for listings). There are various listings websites (eg. https://lewes.co.uk/Whats_on ).

Surrounding Area

We are 15 minutes from the South Downs Way and great walks to Kingston and Alfriston, both with great pubs. Other fun walks include striding over Black Cap on the way to a pub lunch in Plumpton, and from Glynde to Lewes, via Mount Caburn. There is also exciting mountain-biking in Friston Forest, 30 minutes away.

Beaches we love are: Tidemills and Hope Gap (leading to Cuckmere Haven) in Seaford; Birling Gap, in East Dean, and Rottingdean with its seaside promenade to Brighton Marina.

Lewes Train station is a 10 minute walk, with trains to Glynde (5 minutes), Brighton (15 minutes) and London (1 hour 10 minutes). There are buses to Glyndebourne Opera House too.
